Thursday, April 28, 2005 Dr. Ray Punongbayan and 4 Other PHIVOLCS Scientists Killed in Helicopter Crash In 1991, during the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in the Philippines, Dr. Raymundo S. Punongbayan was the director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). He was featured in the NOVA Mt. Pinatubo video that we watched earlier this semester. He and his colleagues were investigating possible resettlement sites for Philippinos displaced by typhoons last year. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
