The Racetrack, Death Valley NP, California. The Racetrack is a playa - an intermittent lake - that during the dry season is a salt pan. Read about the racing rocks - a geological mystery that give the valley its name. The small dark "island" in the salt pan is a small bedrock hill known as "The Grandstand".
